Micromégas is a residency program focused on new media and expertise, co-organized by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, Videotage, and Cneai =. Designed as a recurring program since 2021, the residency offers an annual theme that promotes richer cultural exchange between France and Hong Kong each year.

Kingsley Ng - 2021

With the support of Cinéma du Réel, Lafayette Anticipations and Hong Kong Baptist University – Institute of Creative Arts, Kingsley Ng was able to make a film during his residency in France in 2021, which he screened at the Centre Pompidou thanks to the involvement of Cinéma du Réel.
Artist:
Kingsley Ng is a Hong Kong-based interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses primarily on conceptual, site-specific and community-led projects.

Théodora Barat & Vvzela Kook - 2022-2024

The Micromégas programme in 2022 and 2024 enabled Théodora Barat and Vvzela Kook to create, respectively, a media art piece inspired by the city and local culture where they were based during their residencies, under the theme of globalisation. Through this exchange residency between France and Hong Kong, the artists were invited to undertake research rooted in their host environment and to create an original work inspired by the issues raised by the proposed theme and the local realities they encountered on the ground.

Théodora Barat is a French artist whose multidisciplinary practice ranges from film and sculpture to photography.
Vvzela Kook is an artist who lives and works in Hong Kong, primarily using audiovisual media, including performance, theatre, computer graphics and drawing.

Mona Cara & Mae Chan - 2025

The 2025 edition focuses on the intersection between craftsmanship and technology, showcasing artists who incorporate manual craftsmanship and programmed production into their practices. With HART HAUS and Yishu8 as residency partners, the programme brought together two artists — Mae Chan (Hong Kong) and Mona Cara (Paris) — for an intercultural exchange that took place in October and November. The two artists conducted research into local textile crafts and explored the contemporary technologies available in their host cities.disponibles dans leurs villes d’accueil.

Mona Cara is a French artist whose visual art focuses on weaving, installation and sculpture.
Mae Chan He lives and works between London and Hong Kong; he is a multidisciplinary artist who blends textile work, sculpture and craftsmanship in a deliberate act of self-healing and sincerity.

Angela Su - 2026

In 2026, the exchange residency will bring together an artist from Hong Kong and an artist from France to engage in a joint exploration of contemporary technologies and their impact on our societies. Hosted in turn in both countries, the artists will be invited to explore these issues through the cultural, social and urban contexts of their host cities. This immersion will involve research, experimentation and creative work.
Artist:
Angela Su, a Hong Kong-based artist known for her biomorphic drawings, fiction films and hair embroidery, who explores the imagery of the body through metamorphosis, hybridity and transformation.

VIDEOTAGE (instagram)
Videotage is a non-profit arts organisation based in Hong Kong dedicated to promoting emerging artists in the field of new media and developing the local new media art community. Since 1986, Videotage has evolved from an artist-run collective into a platform dedicated to the promotion, presentation, creation and preservation of new media art.

Cneai = (instagram)
The cneai = Centre d’art composé, navigué, enga-gé, abrité, imaginé is dedicated to the production and promotion of contemporary art. Based in Île-de-France, the cneai = also has a floating studio-home, the Maison Flottante, moored on the banks of the Seine in Poses. The Cneai = is reinventing itself as an archipelago, a network of places, like so many permanent or temporary outposts, akin to shared or ‘pirate’ zones, places for experimentation or for creating distance.

The cultural cooperation policy of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, led by the Service for Cooperation and Cultural Action (SCAC), aims to promote French creative works and to develop lasting partnerships with cultural stakeholders in Hong Kong and Macao. It is based on the coordination of professional networks, support for bilateral and regional projects, and residency programmes that promote the mobility of artists and creators. This initiative is epitomised by French May, Asia’s largest festival dedicated to French culture, which has celebrated the richness of artistic exchanges between France, Hong Kong and Macao across all disciplines every year since 1993.

HART HAUS
HART HAUS is a non-profit arts organisation dedicated to supporting artists and promoting Hong Kong’s creative community. Founded in 2018, HART HAUS has become a vibrant hub for artists and creatives, offering them an essential platform to explore, experiment and develop their practices.

PAIR Program, Institut français / 2026.
PAIR is a program designed for cultural organizations in metropolitan France and overseas territories, aimed at promoting residencies for foreign artists. Through PAIR, the Institut français partners with organizations in metropolitan France and overseas territories to support their international outreach by enabling them to host foreign artists in residency. To apply for this program, the host organization submits an application with the artist of its choice. Together, they propose a research and creation project that requires the artist to come to France for a residency lasting 1 to 3 months.

Yishu8 (instagram) / 2025.
Founded in 2010, the association promotes artistic and cultural exchanges between China and Europe through residency programs in Beijing and Paris for award-winning artists. It also develops partnerships with key players in the art world to organize prestigious exhibitions and events, while supporting the publication of books on Sino-European cultural relations.

K11, Art Foundation / 2023.
The K11 Art Foundation (KAF) is a non-profit art foundation based in Central, Hong Kong, named for an eponymous shopping centre (K11) and established in 2010 by the shopping centre’s operator. It supports the development of Chinese contemporary art from Greater China by providing creative incubation platforms. The K11 Art Village runs an artist residency programme and also hosts events, exhibitions, screenings and talks for artists in residence.

Free to visit and open to all, the Foundation offers a diverse programme featuring bold exhibitions that explore as many ways of seeing the world as there are of living in it. It is a place for people to meet and exchange ideas, in the heart of the Marais, where exhibitions, festivals, tours and workshops create a shared space for reflection on our times and the issues we face.

Cinéma du réel (instagram) / 2022.
An international festival of ethnographic and sociological films, combining documentary, essay and experimental cinema in programmes that reflect the diversity of cinematic genres and approaches. Cinéma du réel focuses on contemporary filmmaking whilst fostering a dialogue with the genre’s heritage and history.

Fiminco / 2026
Established in 2017, the Fiminco Foundation is revitalising a former industrial wasteland in Romainville – accessible by metro and on the outskirts of Paris – to transform it into a resource centre serving artists from around the world and open to all members of the public. The Foundation forms the heart of the FAST cultural district, a project unrivalled in Europe and driven by a dual ambition: to create and to share.
