Transcription of four lectures given in Leipzig in 2010 about a work by Olaf Nicolai installed in the public space in Paris in 1998, this book explores the theme of the labyrinth and its various manifestations and associations, from the Minotaur to geographical maps to Ikea notices.
In 1998, Olaf Nicolai used the green plastic brooms of Parisian municipal employees to build a labyrinth as part of the “Art Grandeur Nature” exhibition in the Parc de La Courneuve (Paris Saint-Denis). Taking this installation as its subject, the book explores and associates a wide range of subjects related to the theme of the labyrinth, while constituting a reference system for Nicolai’s work. The book is accompanied by a map, inserted in a plastic cover that covers the book, depicting the various places and monuments visited by Olaf Nicolai during his Parisian drift.
