Julia Borderie & Eloïse Le Gallo (born in 1989) have been a duo since 2016.

The artist’s career

In an exploratory mode, they consider water as a substance that influences the territories it bathes and the bodies that live there. Using a poetic documentary approach, they make the experience of otherness a condition of artistic creation. The camera’s eye acts as a catalyst for encounters, while questioning the human gestures that shape materials and territories. At the heart of a network of viewpoints and disciplines (craft techniques, geology, chemistry, marine biology, etc.) and at the crossroads of sculpture and cinema, they are interested in the origins of materials in the landscape. Recently, their research has led them to look more specifically at the complementarities between learned form and sensitive form, in collaborations with scientists on forms generated by their cutting-edge technological tools.

Julia Borderie is a graduate of ENSA Paris-Cergy (2011) and UQÀM in Montreal (2015). As a duo, they graduated from Le Fresnoy - Studio des arts contemporains in 2023. Developing their projects during residencies (La Station (2021), Moly-Sabata (2020), Mains d’Œuvres (2019)), they show their films at numerous festivals (Winterthur, Festival du nouveau cinéma de Montréal, Vidéoformes, Festival dei Popoli, Ovni) and take part in group and solo exhibitions (Maison des arts de Grand Quevilly (2024), La Maréchalerie - centre d’art contemporain de l’ENSA Versailles (2022), Cac La Traverse (2021), Gac Annonay (2020), Galerie/Espace d’art contemporain du théâtre de Privas (2018, France), Biennale d’Architecture de Venise (2018).
