His artistic practice lies at the crossroads of cinema, installation and performance. He has focused primarily on reinterpreting ancient Iranian ceremonies and rituals, recontextualising them in contemporary society through the exploration of queer bodies. His work weaves original narratives, mixing fiction and reality, while establishing a dialogue between literary works, life stories and current political reflections.

Shams’ works take a variety of forms - sculptures, photographs, paintings, soundtracks and lighting effects - creating theatrically charged spaces in which enigmatic pieces fed by multiple influences unfold. These spaces invite the public to decipher and interpret, while tackling themes linked to identity, culture and resistance.

By juxtaposing ancient traditions with contemporary social issues, Shams’ work challenges norms and stimulates critical reflection on identity, social structures, and the dynamics of acceptance and resistance.
